Kilim Ndebele Red Rug by Gan Rugs

This is the red model from our Ndebele line, a series designed by Sandra Figuerola that playfully combines several geometric patterns, totally different from each other in terms of style. This proposal draws inspiration from the culture of the Ndebele people of South Africa, who paint the facades of their homes with dynamic and colorful motifs. These geometric and colorful wall decorations are also traditionally made by women.

Sandra Figuerola thus reinterprets the motifs of the Ndebele homes, moving them to a textile medium and using a pattern and color palette more in line with contemporary living. The Red model combines garnet, orange, purple, green and ecru tones. The series also includes a Green version, which contains green, blue, gray and black tones. Both are available in two sizes. The kilim is an artisan method of rug making in which the weft is tightly woven on a manual loom, using only threads and no knotting. The result is a light fabric with no pile, similar to that of upholstery. It is a technique that offers great flexibility, a feature that GAN explores thoroughly to create high-impact details.
