Rabari 1 Rug By Nanimarquina

Designed by Nipa Doshi & Jonathan Levien, the Rabari 1 rug is made from 100% New Zealand wool, a quality fiber that is guaranteed to be cruelty-free. The technique used for its elaboration is called Hand Knotted and allows the manufacture of a manual weave made on a vertical loom where the thread is strongly attached to the warp by means of knots. The technique called Hand Loomed is also used, which allows working with threads of different thicknesses and origins.

The Rabari 1 rug belongs to the RABARI collection by Nanimarquina. The Rabari collection is made from 100% New Zealand wool and handcrafted in India using Hand knotted and Hand woven sumak techniques. Beyond the exceptional beauty that the bright color of the wool curl brings; the Rabari are two rugs of an exceptional design; a canvas on which the designers have projected a refined combination of rhythms and a unique graphic sensuality. We wanted our collaboration with Nani Marquina to refer to these unfinished embroideries, as studies of the different techniques that gradually emerge over time. Two techniques are used: Indo Nepal knot and Sumak. Indo Nepal is a hand-knotting technique in which to obtain this type of knot and work faster, the craftsman uses a rod where he rolls the fiber that later cuts and the cut pile is obtained (cut hair) or loop pile (loop); and Sumak, a technique where the threads are knotted in the warp making it appear that the carpet is made up of braids. A flat structure with relief is obtained.
